Shansi means Chance
It’s a Georgian word, from the country where I was born, and it carries the whole reason this magazine exists: the chance to become better educated, the chance to understand ourselves — as women — more honestly than the world usually allows, and out of that, the chance at a fuller, freer, better-built life.
Most media made for women talks down to them: soft-focus, pastel, faintly apologetic. Shansi doesn’t. We treat you as the intelligent adult you are, and we write about your life the way it’s actually lived — on three levels at once.
Soul — art, essay, poetry, prose, and conversation. What moves you.
Mind — psychology, history, money, and the world as it is now. What sharpens you.
Body — health and your cycle, food, movement, and style. What carries you.
We don’t think a woman is a problem to be fixed or a market to be sold to. She is a whole self — and knowing that self, on every level, is where a better life begins. That is the chance in our name, and we intend to help you take it.
Shansi is online first, in print soon, and out in the world at the gatherings we’ll host along the way. Wherever you find us, the promise holds: honest, useful, beautifully made — and always on your side.
Welcome. Take the chance.
